The Wonders of Libya

Acacus-the prehistoric
secret of the Libyan
Sahara

Acacus Mountainis in the Saharan wilderness in Western Libya. It is a unique natural museum with a diverse landscape including stone arches, a multitude of isolated escarpments, standing like towers in the middle of this lonely place with its enormous sand dunes. Moreover, its dry climate has preserved one of the most valuable world heritage sites - the prehistoric rock paintings, the oldest of which are more than 12 000 years old. This ancient art depicting the animals and the people who inhabited the region during ancient times is under the protection of UNESCO.
